SPLASH!

That’s my sister, Amy.  She’s my other half and my best friend, and we can laugh about just about anything for way too long.  She’ll probably kill me for putting a picture up with her still in braces, but I love this picture of us because it’s goofy and silly, and that pretty much describes us.

This is my old neighbor, Shalyn.  We grew up next door to each other and played together every day.  We swam in our pools, jumped on her trampoline, rode our bikes and scooters…whatever we could think of.  I have to admit we were a little guilty of teasing my sister, but we had fun and have a lot of great memories together, my sister included.  When I think about my times as a pre-teen playing with Shalyn and Amy, one particular memory comes to mind…

Like I said, we used to ride our bikes and scooters around the neighborhood all the time when we were in middle school.  One of our favorite activities was riding our scooters around Shalyn’s pool.  Why we did this, I have no idea.  For some reason, we found it fun.  We never told our parents about it because of course, they would have told us not to do it because it was dangerous.  You might be able to see where this is going…

One day, there we were, innocently riding our scooters around the pool, when surprisingly to us, but not so surprising in general, Shalyn fell into the pool.  We all laughed, she was fine, just a little soaked from head to toe.  She went inside to change while Amy and I continued riding our scooters around the pool like the stupid young girls we were.  When she came outside, she realized her flip-flops had fallen off in the pool, so she went to grab the pool net to fish them out.  She never saw her fate coming.  In fishing her flip-flops out of the pool, Shalyn fell into the pool…again.

Once again, she went inside to change while Amy and I laughed and laughed and laughed.  Poor Shalyn got yelled at by her dad because he thought she did it on purpose…because we all love to fall into swimming pools fully clothed, right?  I guess the fact that we were riding two-wheeled scooters around a swimming pool fully clothed doesn’t help our defense much…

She might have been in a little trouble for a few minutes, but I definitely think it was worth it.  Now we all have a great memory to remember and share when we need a laugh!

One of my favorite ladies of comedy

In looking around podcasts on iTunes, you can imagine my delight when I came across one starring my favorite comedian, Chelsea Handler.  My roommate Kaitlin introduced me to Chelsea and I’ve been in love ever since.  Her podcast is full of clips from her nightly stand-up and celebrity interview show on E!, Chelsea Lately.  If you haven’t tuned it yet, you definitely should.  Chelsea is hilarious from beginning to end of her show, poking fun at celebrities and their sometimes stupid decisions.  She’s sarcastic, witty and will say anything.

With one of the highest rated shows on E! and three New York Times best sellers, Chelsea’s podcast and comedy in general are relevant to anyone who keeps up with celebrity news.  While that may not be everyone, you can’t say you haven’t heard about the mess Charlie Sheen has become, which Chelsea talks about quite often.  Her latest podcast episodes take jabs at E!’s reality plastic surgery Bridalplasty, the obsession with teen pregnancies in TV shows such as 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom and MTV’s scandalous new show, Skins.  Chelsea takes the regular celebrity news we see every day in magazines and news programs and puts a hilarious spin on it.  She says what we’re all thinking but aren’t quite brave enough to say, and that’s why I love her.

My roommate and I saw her live last April in Dallas and it was fantastic.  We laughed for two hours straight, and I hope I get to see her again someday!  With a new book coming out in May of this year, hopefully another book tour will be on the way as well…

Me with "Chelsea"

The one and only…

Now that I’m back in Stillwater and have some time not devoted to school, work or sleep, I have time to share about my wonderful experience last weekend in Oklahoma City.

My roommate Kaitlin, KATHY GRIFFIN and myself

For those of you who don’t know, that would be the hilarious comedian Miss Kathy Griffin.  We went to see her last Friday night in Oklahoma City, and she was wonderful and hilarious, as expected.  What we didn’t expect was to be taking a picture like the one above with Kathy herself.

We went with my mom and some of her friends, one of whom somehow had connections to get meet and greet passes.  We met them at the venue and he walks up to us and says, “Do you girls want to go meet her real quick?”  Somehow we managed to say yes through our shock and excitement.  We go into the meet and greet room and are by far the youngest people in there, but who cares?  We’re about to meet Kathy Griffin!  (Random side note, Kayne Gillaspie of Norman, OK and the third season of Project Runway was also in the meet and greet room.  I’m a Project Runway nerd and loved that there was an Oklahoman designer, so I was excited to see him too!)

Kathy was super nice and friendly; she gave us hugs, said hi and told us she hoped we’d laugh a lot that night.  It was short, but very sweet.  I find this woman absolutely hilarious and I love that she doesn’t care what people think.  She’ll say anything, and it’s awesome.  I’m so glad I got the chance to see her live, and obviously ecstatic I got to meet her!  I would say she’s my second favorite comedian next to Chelsea Handler… if and when I meet Chelsea, I might not be able to speak clearly. Ha!

Speaking of Chelsea…my two favorite ladies on one show? Perfect!

But back to Kathy! One of my favorite parts of her show was probably when she talked about all our crazy food here in Oklahoma.  And it is crazy.  Fried pickles, fried green beans, fried pies, fried anything you can think of really.  She also mentioned our obsession for pizza with ranch dressing… those of you not from Oklahoma probably think all of this sounds disgusting.  But I promise it’s so, so good…and making me a little hungry!
